Memorial Day

After taking advantage of the Memorial Day furniture sales to purchase a half-price couch, we decided to actually observe Memorial Day by heading over the DC war memorials.
A Deer!

Went for a quick walk around Theodore Roosevelt Island and came across this guy. I was probably no more than 4 feet from him when taking these photos. It was pretty wild.
Thunderbirds < Blue Angels. Just sayin’.

We hit up the Joint Forces Open House and Airshow again this year where the Air Force’s Thunderbirds performed:
Pandas, Gorillas, and Orangutan Vomit, Oh My!

I wandered around and snapped a few shots of the animals. While the pandas were amusing as usual, even more entertaining were the gorillas and an orangutan who spent hours entertaining crowds through a window by regurgitating his half-digested food, placing it on the window, and then licking it back up.
Cherry Blossoms and Bad Light

So, the weather during this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival was just nasty. I brought my camera to work on a day that was actually really nice but by the time I made it down to the Tidal Basin to snap some shots of the cherry blossoms, the weather turned back to crap. It was cold, [...]
Dyke Marsh

During a relatively pleasant March day, I got a hankering for some photo-taking and headed down to the Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve on the Potomac River just South of Old Town Alexandria. Pentagon 9/11 Memorial on 9/11

Satchel: Dog? Gremlin? The World May Never Know.

A few weeks ago, we were kind enough to dogsit a rambunctious Boston Terrier named Satchel. Here are some shots from that adventure. Note: I woke up several times in the middle of the night with this face staring me down:
The President’s House

A few weeks ago we got to tour the White House gardens. Here are a few shots from that day:
I took some photos at the Cherry Blossom Festival but I’m not really happy with any of them.

The light was pretty flat and I did not bring my A game.
2 Protests in 1 Day (Part 1)

While we had decided to meet some friends at Eastern Market in downtown DC, we heard that there was going to be an anti-war protest at the White House and I thought it would be a great opportunity for some photos. I was correct. Ralph Nader spoke while a pretty diverse group of people protested [...]
National Botanical Gardens (Part 1)

Lindsey and I took a trip into the District today and decided to check out the orchid show at the National Botanical Gardens, cameras in hand. I ended up getting some pretty good shots despite the rare shafts of good light. Here’s the first batch:
